THIS THEN IS THE MESSAGE
Greetings dear and precious friends and saints and welcome to the start of this teaching from 1st John. Teaching from the “little Johns” has been on my mind for some time and now is the time. Please take a moment and share this, and all other teachings, as widely as possible by every means available to you. Thank you so much for sharing. The Lord is so good, to give us His Word, to shine light on His abundant path for our lives. Before I move to our primary Bible text, let me remind you all of two things. Now let’s turn our full attention to our primary Bible text for today. Are you reading out loud?
1 John 1:5-10 (KJV)
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
We all can see that we have come to an oft quoted passage of Scripture, an extraordinarily wonderful passage. It is so wonderful for it speaks to our forgiveness of sin; a forgiveness that hard to get our natural minds around. This passage is written to Christians, those already saved who sin. Well, back to the top. We are told that God is light. Light brings clarity of vision and when one stays in the light stumbling or falling is not possible. By extension dear ones, since we are made in the image and likeness, of like kind with God we also when we are born again are light. Not the general light of the Father but more like a portable lamp. To shed just a little more light on this, let’s go back to the beginning.
Genesis 1:5 (KJV)
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
The word translated as light here means illumination, glorious, happiness, to be bright, and clear according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. The word translated as darkness here means misery, destruction, death, ignorance, sorrow, or wickedness according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Now, does anyone have a question as to which one we should choose? So, why do so many choose the dark? I’m not talking about the heathen; I am talking about confessing Christians.
