1 JOHN – 4:11
WILL WE EVER SEE ALL THERE IS TO SEE OF GOD?
Video link
Greetings precious saints of God, beloved of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Welcome back to this wonderfully refreshing and enlightening Bible Book of 1st John. The Lord is so good to give us His thoughts, His Words, and His ways that we can walk in them. We know that as we walk in faith according to His thoughts, Words, and ways powered by love that we please Him. Now, let’s go to our primary Bible text in 1st John continuing to read out loud. Reading out loud is very important, it is essential to developing faith and pleasing our Heavenly Father.
1 John 4:11-16 (KJV)
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
If God could love us knowing all and pay that awful price we ought to love one another. If God could look beyond our sin, our shortcomings, and send His Son, surely we can look beyond our brothers’ sins and shortcomings. We have the very some love that God has. Let us exercise it imitating our Heavenly Father.
Ephesians 5:1-2 (KJV)
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
The word “followers” in Ephesians 5:1 is best interpreted as to imitate. Here again we see the Apostle Paul bring love front and center. As the Lord laid down His life for us so should we lay down our life for Him. Remember walking in love means we do the Scriptures with a willing heart, we are selfless in motivations, and we are ever cognizant of the Blood Covenant. We are not asked to lay down our physical lives but to lay down our will for His will.
As we move into verse twelve, we are told that no man has seen God at any time. This statement is a little puzzling since we know Adam and perhaps Eve saw God, maybe others, in the Garden. Enoch and Elijah were caught away to Heaven and presumably saw God. There are many credible reports of people caught up to Heaven and witnessed things in Heaven including God. After the resurrection Jesus was fully God once again and many saw Him. Let’s look at this verse in the Passion Translation.
1 John 4:12 (PassionNTPsa)
12 No one has ever gazed upon the fullness of God’s splendor. But if we love one another, God makes his permanent home in us, and we make our permanent home in him, and his love is brought to its full expression in us.
It seems that this translation brings forward the most likely explanation of the verse, the statement. Who knows if we will ever see the fullness of Gods’ splendor. Consider the following passage as I close for today. Who knows how long they have been doing this but it seems they have never seen it all.
Revelation 4:8-9 (KJV)
8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
