HE THAT BELIEVETH ON ME, THE WORKS THAT I DO, SHALL HE DO ALSO

Greetings precious saints of God, beloved of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Welcome back to this wonderfully refreshing and enlightening Bible Book of 1st John. The Lord is so good to give us His thoughts, His Words, and His ways that we can walk in them. We know that as we walk in faith according to His thoughts, Words, and ways powered by love that we please Him. Now, let’s go to our primary Bible text in 1st John continuing to read out loud. Reading out loud is very important, it is essential to developing faith and pleasing our Heavenly Father.
1 John 4:1-3 (KJV)
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Last Friday we left off discussing verse one of this fourth chapter of 1st John. I trust that all had a wonderful celebration of the birth of the Christ. Now, we are at the edge of and peering into the new year and perhaps imaging what it might hold. The Apostle John is cautioning us not to believe every spirit but to try them to see if they be of God or a false or evil spirit. He tells us that many false teachers/preachers/Prophets are present in the world. When we are talking to or listening to a person, I’m not sure we often consider that we are listening to a spirit. The message is being conveyed through flesh and blood but originated in the spirit man of the person. And it could even be that we are hearing the Spirit/spirit behind the person and not just their spirit.
He then shifts to explaining how we can determine if the spirit is of God or of an evil source. The Apostle tells us that one who confesses the Jesus Christ came in the flesh is of God. Let’s look at a few terms briefly. The word “confesseth” is the Greek word transliterated to English as homologeō which means to say the same thing according to Strong’s Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. Next, I want us to consider the reference to Jesus Christ. Jesus is the name of our Lord and Savior. Christ is not His last name. Christ has basically three meanings, Messiah, Anointed One, and the Anointing. Then John tells us that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, with a body like other men. He had a body just like ours, subject to death. If He were here as God His body could not have died, have been killed. Apparently, this distinction is important based upon the space in Scripture given to it.
The Scripture is very clear that Jesus came as a man and operated as a man not as God (large G). Just consider this one Scripture which I have talked about many many times.
John 14:12 (KJV)
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
He expects us to do all that He did walking as a man by faith powered by love and Anointed with the same Holy Spirit that Anointed Him. Further more He expects us to do greater things than He did which are at least in part spelled out in Isaiah 60 and 61. He did not have the authority to do those things but now we walk in all authority and the Blessing upon the natural and the supernatural.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
