Greetings precious children of God, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and welcome back to our Bible Study of 1st John. What a wonderful Book of love and light. God is love and God is light. We were made in the image and likeness of God therefore we are to be love and light in Christ Jesus. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text, reading it out loud.
1 John 5:3-6 (KJV)
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
Today I will pick up with the fourth verse of our primary Bible text. It is very important that we not take this verse as a stand-alone, in fact that is true for most, if not all verses. The overcoming the of the world is directly related to our love of God, obedience to His commandments. Now we come to the power twin of love, which is faith. The foundation, the power of faith is love. We must believe the Word of God, what it says is the only option in our life, being fully persuaded and doubting not. The overcomer must believe that Jesus is the Son of God. This is not mental assent but a firm believe upon which one stakes their life. Listen to the Words to Jesus to the Church at Laodicea.
Revelation 3:20-22 (KJV)
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
What did Jesus overcome?
John 16:33 (KJV)
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Hear the Apostle Paul.
Romans 12:21 (KJV)
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
The word tribulation has to do with pressure being applied like lust of the flesh, lust of the eye, and pride of life, to go the way of the world. It does not have to do with physical illness, poverty, being stoned and killed.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
