THE KINGDOM OF GOD – PART NINETEEN
AUTHORITY AND FAITH
Video link: https://youtu.be/1W7POfEGvlQ
Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this essential study of the Kingdom of God and repentance. Why is it essential? It is essential because this is what Jesus talked about most of the time. If it was important to Him, it is vital that we seek to understand every aspect of the Kingdom of God and repentance following in His footsteps. One might ask, why do you keep bringing up repentance. I keep bringing it up because Jesus did. There are many things in each of our lives that we believe to be the Truth and are not. Of those things we must repent. As we move forward let’s again review our anchor, Scripture.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Now I will be moving forward in our study of repentance and the Kingdom of God. This weeks passage will cause us to pause as we did last Sunday’s passage. This passage is right in the middle of the testimony of the Centurion (a gentile outside of the Abrahamic Covenant) who came to Jesus on behalf of his servant. How did he reach outside of time and into the Blood Covenant with Abraham? He did it with faith which was intertwined with his understanding of authority. He understood coming under authority and the exercise of authority.
Matthew 8:10-13 (NKJV)
10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!
11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.
Jesus was astonished by the centurions faith saying He had not found so great a faith in all of Israel. Think about it, His very own disciples are right there and are a part of Israel.
Let’s look at verse twelve in the Message Bible for further, critical, insight. The use of the word “sons” here may be misleading.
Matthew 8:12 (MSG)
12 Then those who grew up ‘in the faith’ but had no faith will find themselves out in the cold, outsiders to grace and wondering what happened.”
What an awful place to find oneself. Grew up in Church, stayed in Church, but never had a relationship with Jesus for themselves. As we think about this Matthew eight passage, it is much like the Matthew seven passage last Sunday. In Matthew seven we find the discussion about bearing good or Godly fruit doing the will of the Father which is the Word of God. Again, in the eighth chapter of Matthew they had a form of godliness but never entered the Kingdom of God, never repented.
TAKE HOME:
1. Do we know that we have relationship with the Father through the Son having repented of our old life in the kingdom of darkness having turned 180 degrees from it and have entered the Kingdom of God.
2. Do we understand that faith does not operate absent an understanding of authority, Godly authority. Authority and faith are intertwined.
3. Not everyone in Church, talking Church talk, and doing Church things is saved and going to Heaven. Let us be sure it is not us.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here with our study of the Kingdom of God tomorrow. The Lord is good, He is not the source of our problems, neither is the devil, and He cannot lie! God loves you; we love you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
