Now let’s dive into our primary Bible text for this Friday study. Please be sure you are reading out loud, yes, out loud.
1 John 2:10-14 (KJV)
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
As we pick up our study of 1st John today, I want to be sure we understand that the light is the Word of God, the Word is God, and the Word is life. We, of course, are talking about spiritual light. Spiritual light not only gives us eternal life but teaches us how to live, function, in the Kingdom of God, and in this physical realm. The light shows us what was hidden from us in the darkness. The light, the Word of God, gives us life, a life of righteousness.
Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The Lord Jesus, the Three Persons of God, are light and there is nothing hidden in Them, no place of stumbling.
1 John 1:5 (KJV)
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
The following passage brings it home, all together, the Word of God, is the Light, and this eternal life is light. Put another way, Jesus, the Word, the light, brought Salvation, eternal life.
John 1:1-4 (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Finally, notice that verse ten tells us plainly that if we will walk in love (agapē/agapaō) with our brother we have no cause for stumbling. If we stay in the light, in the Word, in love, we will see the snare and avoid it.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, the Lord is good, and He cannot lie.
