Greetings dear friends and saints of God and welcome back to this study of 1st John written by the love Apostle himself. Please pause for a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. If it is of value to you, it will be of value to others. Thank you for sharing. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today continuing to read out loud.
1 John 2:15-17 (KJV)
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
As we move forward into verse sixteen, we come to the three primary sins and these existed from the beginning, the Day of Sin and Death. These of the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. Watch for these in the following passage.
Genesis 3:5-6 (KJV)
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
The Serpent, Lucifer fallen, led mankind into the very sin that brought about his own fall in verse five. Then we see the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eye. Up to this point it was a temptation which is not a sin but then she and Adam partook, sin was consummated and man, not God, not the Serpent, brought death, the curse into the earth.
James 1:13-16 (KJV)
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
This statement in verse 16 commanding us not to err is very important. There is a well-entrenched theology that from time-to-time God knocks the snot out of us to see if we will still follow Him. This is how the Book of Job is taught all too often. God forbid, dear ones we serve a wonderfully good God. He teaches out of His Word. When we err, stray from the Word, we are now in the devils’ hand and stealing, killing, and destroying takes place. This is not Bible! Now, let’s look at the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus had to pass the test that Adam failed. First, we find the lust of the flesh and then lust of the eye.
Luke 4:3-6 (KJV)
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
Finally, in this passage we find pride of life.
Luke 4:9-12 (KJV)
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember the Lord is good, nothing but good, and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
