1 JOHN – CHAPTER TWO
Friday – May 3, 2024, Nisan 25, 5784
Greetings dear friends and saints of God and welcome back to this study of 1st John written by the love Apostle himself. Please pause for a moment and share this teaching as widely as possible by every means available to you. If it is of value to you, it will be of value to others. Thank you for sharing. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today continuing to read out loud.
1 John 2:15-17 (KJV)
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
What a wonderful Book written by the Apostle of Love (John) as moved upon by the Holy Spirit. Last Friday we spent quite a bit of time with the fifteenth verse and I will continue today. We see the command not to love the world meaning we do not put the ways of the world first. We must recognize the thoughts, words, and ways of the world and replace them with the thoughts, words, and ways of the Kingdom of God. Our focus is never to be on the world nor the things of the world but the Kingdom of God and His ways of doing things.
Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
This is said in so many ways throughout Scripture, from one cover to the other. Two things are paramount to our God, first is love which can be translated as obedience to the Word and the second is honor. Now, what about the phrase in verse fifteen “the love of the Father is not in him”? Meditate the following passage as we meditate and expect instruction from the Holy Spirit.
Romans 5:1-6 (KJV)
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Bold added)
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Let’s focus in on verse five of the preceding passage. Love is a fruit of the Spirit of God, a characteristic or part of the character God. Thus, love is also a fruit of our spirit and a characteristic of our character. If you need to, go back and review exactly what defines Bible love. There is zero emotion in Bible love whereas the love of the world is frequently all emotion. Now, emotion may be produced secondarily, but it is not a primary motivator. Bible love is a function of our will based on Blood Covenant. How is the love of God shed abroad in our hearts? The word “hearts” in the text is a part of our soul, specifically our thoughts/mind. We get a knowledge of the love of God from the Word of God and to some extent our experience with God. This is something we learn with the help of the Holy Spirit. When we understand and are fully persuaded (faith) that God will perform His Word, that He is selfless, and walks in Blood Covenant with us we know that the hoped-for thing is a certainty. So, now let’s look back at our primary Bible text.
1 John 2:15 (KJV)
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
The love of the Father not being in a person has to do with a failure to acquire knowledge of the Fathers’ love, and failing to even know what Bible love really is. These things being the case how can one express Bible love or even be assured of the Bible love of the Father?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. The Lord is so good, always faithful, and He cannot lie.

2 Chronicles 20:20 b (KJV)
20 … Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (KJV)
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
