1 JOHN – 4:15
GOD DWELLS IN THOSE WHO CONFESS JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD
Video link: https://youtu.be/u7FiqxNyVV4
Greetings dear ones and welcome back to this enlightening and empowering study of the Bible Book of 1st John. The Lord is really good. Of course, saying the Lord is good falls far short of His true character that we term as goodness. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text. Be sure that you are reading out loud, it is vital.
1 John 4:11-16 (KJV)
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
We left off last Friday with verse fourteen and are picking up this week with the fifteenth verse of our primary Bible text. Is verse fifteen a stand-alone verse? We should not view any verse as a stand alone but look for the other witnesses as to it Truth. Not everything in Scripture is the Truth, it is all true but not the Truth. For example, when people are speaking of their own accord. We must always evaluate who is speaking and who are they speaking too. What about the devils confessing that Jesus was the Son of God, does God dwell in them and they in God?
Matthew 8:29 (KJV)
29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Of course, God is not in them and they are not in God. So, we see that we must add to the verse all that we have learned about love in the preceding verses and in many to follow. The Spirit within us helps us to know that we dwell in Him and He in us. Not by feelings but by knowledge and the witness that we are empowered to manifest the same love, albeit it measured, as the Father. Let me remind all that this love (agapē) does not have its basis in emotion but in knowledge and our will.
As we transition into verse sixteen, we again run into this pesky thing about knowing. We know the love of the Father for He sent His Son, Jesus the Christ, and we are saved. This knowledge is revelation knowledge and we believe the Word of God and know that God is love. As I pointed out before, if God is love than so are we for we are in His image and likeness. In addition, our spirit man came from God. Our spirit was not created, it was breathed into the first man Adam. Most people on the planet although they have a physical body containing life (from God) and a functioning soul (mind, will, emotions) their spirit man is disconnected from God and is dead (dead to God). Our Scripture tells us that as we walk (dwelleth) in love we dwell in God and He in us. Isn’t this just wonderful?
Lord willing, I will pick up right here next Friday. Remember, we love you, the Lord loves you, and there is nothing you can do about either one.
