THE LIFE OF JESUS, THE PROPHETIC WORD, AND THE CROSS TESTIFY OF THE CHRIST

Greetings to all and welcome back to this enlightening and empowering study of the Bible Book of 1st John. What a wonderful Book and how blessed we are to have the light of Scripture. Now, let’s turn our attention to our primary Bible text for today reading out loud.
1 John 5:6-8 (KJV)
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
As we examine these three verses it seems that verse eight is a repeat of verse six reflecting the witnesses to Jesus Christ in the earth and verse seven the witness to Jesus Christ in Heaven. As I looked at this in various translations there is quite a variance in delineating what the water and blood refer to. One said it was His water baptism and crucifixion on the Cross, another made reference to when the Roman solder pierced His side with water and blood coming forth. Let me share with you what I see in this passage. The “water” I believe represents the Word of God, most specifically the Prophetic Word spoken of His coming and fulfilled with His coming and Ministry. The “blood” I believe represents Blood Covenant. Let’s take a look at two places that will help us see this. On that awful Day of Sin and Death in the Garden of Eden we see the first of the Blood Covenant that a Redeemer was on the way.
Genesis 3:15 (KJV)
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Genesis 3:21 (KJV)
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
The Covenant was tested and proven this day on Mount Moriah and the coming of Jesus Christ was certain.
Genesis 22:11-13 (KJV)
11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
Most translations of this Scripture passage do not record the three that bear record in Heaven but rather as the New American Standard Bible, a word for word translation.
1 John 5:7 (NASB)
7 For there are three that testify:
Of course, the testimony of God in the earth originated in Heaven and will be, is, exactly the same.
